TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Marian women's cross country team began the 2017 campaign with a strong performance, winning the small school division of the John McNichols Invitational Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Knights finished first among four teams.

Marian tallied just 29 points, which was far and away the low score of the day as Rose Hulman finished second with 56 points. St. Mary (Kan.) finished third with 65 and McKendree came in fourth with 77. The Knights' top five finishers average time of 20:11 was more than 20 seconds better than the second place school.

While Lorena Moreno of St. Mary won the race individually, the Knights were led by a trio of top five finishers. Brittany Sharp finished second in 19:51, which was just ahead of Kiersten Schrope's third place finish of 19:58. Rachel Dever finished fourth in 20:03. Sarah Wieser also finished inside the top 10, coming in ninth with a time of 20:28. At. 20:35, Camryn Butz finished 11th, while Olivia Koehl came in 16th and Alison Hering finished 18th.

Marian had four runners finish in the top 10, while the other three schools each had two runners. Marian also fit all runners that placed inside the top 20, while each of the other three schools had at least two runners outside of it.
