The Marian University Cycling Team's mountain bike squad opened their fall season in Copper Harbor and Houghton, Michigan this weekend with a Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference competition hosted by Michigan Tech University.

Senior Ben Schmutte was a double winner on the weekend, taking home the victory in the men's A short track and cross-country events. Schmutte also finished fourth in the downhill competition. Senior Anders Nystrom also performed well, riding to top-ten finishes in all four men's A events. Freshman Cole McDicken earned the win in the men's B short track and cross-country races, with freshman Nick Beirne finished second in each of those competitions as well.

Junior Katherine Santos rode to a win in both women's A endurance events, and also finished third in women's A downhill. Senior Angelina Palermo, the defending Collegiate National Champion in downhill, earned the women's A downhill title on the weekend and also finished second in dual slalom in addition to racing to third in short track.

 

Junior Shannon Taylor finished with a win in the men's A dual slalom competition.

The mountain biking Knights on Bikes will return to MWCCC racing action in Whitewater, Wisconsin on September 23 and 24.
