INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's soccer team continued their home field dominance, winning 2-1 over Siena Heights Wednesday at St. Vincent Field. Marian has won three-straight matches and is 4-2 with the win.

The two teams looked evenly matched from the start, trading shots in the early going of a fairly physical match. After 25 minutes of scoreless action, the Knights broke through for the game's first goal. Mackenzie Hall received a pass in the box from Nicole Jansen and finished it with the keeper out of position. However, it took less than 1:30 for the Saints to find an answer as the Knights scored an own goal off a cross from Siena Heights.

The 1-1 draw would hold until halftime as the Knights fired 10 shots compared to Siena Heights' four. In the second half, Marian took eight minutes to find the game-winner. Kellie Cavanaugh received a pass from Chloe Ulmer and launched a beautiful strike from outside the 18 that found the back of the net. The goal was Cavanaugh's third of the season and it was Ulmer's second assist.

Marian's defense was strong in the second half, keeping Siena Heights away from the box and allowing just two shots. Marian outshot SHU 21-6 and the Knights held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Brenna Malatestinic played the full 90 and made four saves for Marian.

The Knights will put their win streak on the line Friday night at home against Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
