MARION, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team competed at ITA Regionals in Marion, Indiana, over the weekend and the Knights came away with several quality results, highlighted by Alex Wittenbaum and Noah Roberts' run through the consolation bracket to be crowned consolation doubles champions.

Wittenbaum and Roberts fell, 8-2, in their first match of the weekend. With a tall task in front of them, Wittenbaum and Roberts began making their way through the consolation bracket. They won their first match 9-8 (9-7) and followed with an 8-4 victory over Kanther and Rush from Huntington. The win propelled the pair into Saturday's competition where they won the consolation semis match over Herbruck and Jung from Taylor. In the consolation championship, Wittenbaum and Roberts bested 

In other doubles action, Ian Deiters and Nicholas Marroquin advanced in the winner's bracket by winning their first match 8-3 and their second by a score of 8-6. In the quarterfinals, the Marian pair fell by a 9-7 score to a duo from Northwestern Ohio. 

In singles play, Roberts dropped his first match in a back-and-forth affair that ended with Goshen's Zuercher winning 4-6, 6-1, 14-12. Marroquin also lost his first match, but Deiters was able to make a run to the third round. Deiters won his first match 6-1, 6-2 and took the second match 6-2, 6-1. Deiters fell in the third round 6-0, 6-2. Wittenbaum matched Deiters by winning back-to-back as well. The sophomore was victorious 6-3, 7-5 in the first round and 6-4, 6-3 in the second round, before falling 6-1, 7-5 in the third round.

Roberts was able to bounce back in singles play much like doubles. He won his first consolation match 7-6, (7-1), 6-1 and his second 2-6, 7-5, 10-5. In the quarterfinals, Roberts met teammate Marroquin. Marroquin advanced by winning 6-0, 6-2 in his first consolation match and 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 in his second match. Roberts topped Marroquin in their match by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Roberts then fell in the semifinals to end his run.
