Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Marian volleyball team won their 13th straight match Wednesday night, as the Knights beat St. Francis 3-1. Playing from behind on several occasions in the match, the road team hung tight to prevail over the Cougars. No. 25 Marian now has an overall record of 15-2 this season, while improving to 7-0 in the Crossroads League. 

Marian got off to a slow start Wednesday against St. Francis, dropping the first set of the match for the first time since embarking on their 13-match win streak. Leading in the first 21-16, Marian looked to be in prime position to start the night in the right direction. St. Francis had other plans, as they pulled off a long scoring streak to provide them with momentum, taking the first set 26-24. Marian showed better poise in the second set, as they were able to take the an early 6-3 forcing the St. Francis timeout. Not looking back, the visitors controlled the lead and tempo of the second set, evening the score at 1-1 with a 25-21 win.

Digging themselves into a 18-15 hole in the third set, the Knights rallied off seven straight points to put themselves in front 22-18. Marian finished the set strong, coming away with a 25-22 win. Finding themselves trailing on three seperate occasions in the fourth set, Marian used multiple scoring runs to even the set. A St. Francis attack error evened the set at 23-23, lighting a spark for Marian. A double block by AlyxaKay Shields and Anne Strevels gave Marian the 24-23 lead, before Julie Hoying ended the match with a service ace.

Shields had one of the best offensive performances this season for Marian, as she led the team with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .452. Frannie Stephenson had 14 kills on 34 total attacks, while Kacee Salyers had 10 kills. Salyers made her presence felt on the defensive side, posting a double-double as she had 10 digs as well. 

Julie Hoying led a dominant passing game for Marian, recording a season-high 34 assists. Madi Heffron also had an impressive passing game, recording 18 assists. Vanessa Lay led the Knights defensive approach with 24 digs, with Megan Hawley recording 13 digs. Sarah Clem and Strevels each recorded five block assists. Hannah Trout, Salyers, Shields, and Stephenson all recorded three block assists. 

The No. 25 Knights will face two tough opponents this weekend, as Marian will travel to Indiana Wesleyan this Friday night before playing at Huntington on Saturday.
