Marion, Ind. - After going on a remarkable 13-match win streak, the Marian volleyball team lost their first match in four weeks on Friday to Indiana Wesleyan, 3-2. Trailing 2-1 after the third set, Marian pulled out a win in the fourth to force the fifth set, but Wesleyan proved to be one step ahead, winning the match in five. The Knights' record now stands at 15-3 overall this season and 7-1 in Crossroads League play.

This matchup lived up to the hype, as the top two teams in the Crossroads League were in an all-out fight Friday night. Marian started the match on the right note, as they downed Indiana Wesleyan 25-19 in the first set. After being in a deadlock at 15, a Frannie Stephenson kill gave the Knights the momentum to finsh the set with a win. The Wildcats showed their muscle in the second and third sets, as they took the pair 25-21, 25-20 to give them a 2-1 advantage. 

With their backs against the wall, Marian rallied in the fourth set to even the match at two sets each. A Kacee Salyers kills gave Marian the lead at 18-17, and the Knights never looked back, as they won the set 25-21.

The fifth set was foreign territory for the Knights, as they had only gone the distance twice so far this season. The visitors jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the final set, but slowly Indiana Weslyan chipped away at the score. IWU tied things up at 10-10, seemingly putting the game on ice as they jumped ahead 14-10. A Salyers sercvice ace, Anne Strevels kill, and two errors by Wesleyan quickly got Marian back in the action. Despite the comeback, Marian was unable to hold onto the lead, as IWU scored the final two points to take the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.

The Knights were led by Salyers offensively, as she put up a monsterous double-double. The senior had 15 kills and 24 digs, as well as one service ace and three block assists. 

AlyxaKay Shields had 13 kills for Marian, while Stephenson had 11. Setters Julie Hoying and Madi Heffron each had double-doubles, with Hoying posting a team high 28 assists to go with her 10 digs. Heffron had 24 assists and 11 digs. Vanessa Lay had 24 digs for Marian, while Megan Hawley had 13. Strevels had two block solos to go with her three block assists, while Sarah Clem had one block solo and three block assists.

Marian will be on the road again tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Huntington for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Foresters, as they look to close the first half of Crossroads League play with a win.
