INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's soccer team won their second straight game Saturday afternoon, as they beat the heat and Salem International 3-0. The game marks the second straight shutout for the Knights, as they improved their overall record to 3-4 as they enter the Crossroads League schedule.

Saturday's game opened in a slow fashion, as neither team showed aggression early in the match, trying to feel out the heat. Marian finally broke the trend after 30 minutes of play, as Tommy Bullock scored the first goal of the afternoon to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Bullock received a great pass from Luke Sartino to score the first goal of the game.

Eight minutes after scoring the first goal, the Knights scored again as Hamed Sidibe scored his third goal of the season. Sidibe's header marked his second of the week, as Ian Gammon delivered the perfect assist. This was the second Sidibe-Gammon connection of the week, as the duo provided Marian's goal on Tuesday.

Coming out of halftime leading 2-0, Marian packed it in during the second half to strengthen their defense. Sidney Miranda was a wall for the Knights, recording six saves in the shutout win. Miranda had four saves alone in the second half. Adding an insurance goal late in the period, Gammon put the game on ice as he scored on Jeffery Rhodes' assist with 5:45 seconds remaining in the contest.

"This was a great way to end out pre-conference slate!" said head coach Ernie Yarborough. "I felt it was as close to a complete match that we have had thus far, as we limited a talented and technical NCAA DII Salem International team while also being very efficient on both restarts and in our attack.

Now we get to rest, recover, and prepare for a good Mt. Vernon Nazarene team to open Crossroads League play on the road next Saturday."

Marian was out-shot in the game 12-7, but capitalized on three of four shots on goal to give the home team the win. Gammon led Marian in shot attempts with two, while five other Knights took a shot attempt.

The Knights have ended their non-conference schedule, as they now begin the Crossroads League portion of the season. Marian travels to Mt. Vernon Nazarene next Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
