Huntington, Ind. - One day after seeing their win-streak end at 13, the Marian volleyball team bounced back against Huntington University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights beat the Foresters 3-2, as they were able to win their first five-set match of the season. Marian's win pushes their Crossroads League record to 8-1 this season, while improving their overall record to 16-3 as they finish the first half of confrence play in a tie for first place with Indiana Wesleyan.

As they have done almost all season, Marian came out hot, winning the first set of the afternoon 25-21. Marian started the set leading 8-2, giving themselves an early cushion. Huntington rallied back late to make things close, but ultimately fell short in the first set. Unfortunately for the Knights, the Foresters mojo didn't completely evaporate, as they went on to win the next two sets by the score of 25-20 each time.

Marian snapped back to reality in the fourth set, showing the crowd why they are ranked No. 25 in the NAIA. The Knights built themselves an early five point lead in the fourth set, expanding that margin to take complete control, going on to win 25-16. Marian led by as many as seven points throughout the set before coming away with the nine point win.

Not wanting to repeat last night by seeing a comeback from down 2-1 defecit and lose in five sets, the Knights put their foot on the pedal from the word go. Marian jumped out to a 6-1 lead, eventually putting the match away with a 15-6 win. The win was the first in four opportunities when Marian has reached the fifth set.

"Today's win was truly a team effort," said coach Ashlee Pritchard. "Our bench players were great today and provided a big spark. Kalyn Schreiber played amazing for us, subbing in late in the second and leading the team in kills. Taylor Nauert also made some great blocks at the perfect time and Liv (Olivia Gillum) made some great plays too."

Schreiber led Marian offensively with 10 kills, as she more than doubled her season totals in kills. Kacee Salyers and Hannah Trout each had eight kills for the Knights, with Anne Strevels spiking 7 of the team's 46 kills. Salyers led all players in the match with four service aces.

Julie Hoying and Madi Heffron posted a double-double for the second straight day. Hoying led the Knights in assists at 20 while adding 10 digs to her totals, while Heffron had 16 assists and 11 digs. Vanessa Lay led all players with 25 digs in the contest. Salyers had nine digs for the Knights and Gillium tallied eight. Strevels, Salyers, and Sarah Clem each had one solo block, while Clem led the Knights with six block assists.

Marian will begin the second half of the Crossroads League schedule next Wednsday as they return home to the PE Center. Marian will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
