INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Marian College baseball team took the field for the first time in over a week due to inclement weather when it played host to the Huntington Foresters in a Mid-Central Conference clash at Marian Baseball Field. The Knights earned a solid win in game one, 3-2, but fell in game two, 10-4. Marian's record now sits at 8-15-1 overall and 4-3 in the MCC.

Senior centerfielder Bryston Bangel (Indianapolis, Ind./ Decatur Central) led off the opener in style with a double down the right field line. Sophomore Josh Terrell (Richmond, Va./Danville JC) sacrificed Bangel to third and senior Joel Strode (Canton, Ill./ Canton) followed with a walk. Senior Jason Moon (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) hammered a fly ball deep to center to score Bangel with a sacrifice fly to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead.

The Foresters answered in the top of the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Knights would not give in.

Sophomore shortstop Chad Morris (Lebanon, Ind./Vermont) singled up the middle and junior Josh Gerald (Frankfort, Ind./ Frankfort) sacrificed him into scoring position with two outs. Senior Cody Andrew ( Hanover, Ind./Southeastern) ripped a double down the left field line to score Morris and tie the ballgame.

Bangel singled up the middle to move Andrew to third. Bangel stole second and Andrew broke for home and the throw got away to score the game-winning run. The Knights had a 3-2 lead after four innings and senior Jeff Brunette (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) would not let that lead slip.

The Indianapolis, Ind., native posted his fourth complete game victory of the season by allowing just two hits over the final three innings to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The second game proved a different story as the Knights could get little going offensively until the final frame.

After notching just three hits over the first six innings and falling behind 10-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Knights were primed for a rally. After a fly out to lead off the inning, junior Andre Hall (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue) reached on an infield single and Bangel beat out a bunt to put runners on first and second. A pop out put the Knights with two men on and two out.

Strode singled up the middle to drive home Hall and, after a walk to Moon, the bases were loaded for senior Derek Malikian (Charlottesville, Va./New River CC). He took a 2-1 pitch to the warning track in right for bases-clearing double. However, the rally was quelled and the Knights fell valiantly, 10-4.

Bangel led the Knights in the twinbill by going 4-for-7 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Strode went 3-for-5 for the two games with two RBI. Malikian finished game two 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The Knights get back on the diamond on Tuesday when they play host to MCC foe Grace College at Marian Baseball Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
