The Marian University Mountain Bike Team grew their team lead in the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference season omnium, and senior Ben Schmutte grabbed the green jersey of the individual conference leader at a race weekend hosted by UW-Whitewater last weekend.

With three wins in the men's A field (short track, cross-country, and downhill), Schmutte moved himself into the individual overall lead in the conference. Junior Anders Nystrom earned some solid finishes as well, grabbing second place in the cross-country and downhill events and third in the short track race. Senior Zachary Carlson grabbed second in the men's A short track after establishing a solid gap with Schmutte and Nystrom very early in a hot and fast event at the Alpine Valley Ski Resort.

Senior Sam Winters rode to a win in the men's B short track event on Sunday after finishing third on Saturday in cross-country. Freshman Nate Ganger was a dual winner in the men's C endurance events.

Junior Katherine "KK" Santos grabbed a win in the women's A short track event and followed up with a third place in downhill to add to her weekend's podiums and took over in the women's A green jersey compeition. Sophomore Marta Morris earned the women's A cross-country win and freshman Birgit Morris scored the top time in the women's A downhill event.

Junior Rachel Cross earned the win in the women's B cross country event on Saturday and then upgraded categories, racing in the A's on Sunday in short track.

Top results from all riders throughout the weekend in Wisconsin put the Knights in the lead for the varsity team omnium. Some MTB'ing Knights will travel to out-of-conference competition at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky this weekend, but the full team will be back in action October 7 & 8 when Marian University hosts the MWCCC Mountain Bike Regional Championships at the Indy Cycloplex and Southwestway Park.
