INDIANAPOLIS - It took all nine matches to find a winner, but the Marian men's tennis team defeated Grace, 5-4, in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament Tuesday at the Marian Tennis Courts. The Knights are 9-2 overall with the win.

Doubles play did not go Marian's way as all three matches were close, but two went in favor of the Lancers. Alex Wittenbaum and Max Ismoilov fell 8-6 at No. 3 to open the day, but Nathan Bogle and Noah Roberts got the Knights back on track with a 8-4 win at No. 2. With all eyes fixed on the No. 1 match, Ian Deiters and Nicholas Marroquin battled in an intense, tightly-contested match, but ultimately fell 9-7.

Marian fought back in singles play as Wittenbaum won easily at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. Roberts then gave Marian the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. It looked as if the Knights would then cruise to victory as Bogle picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4, but Grace had other ideas in mind. The Lancers' Lucas Fonseca defeated Ismoilov at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4 to pull Grace within one and Uros Pajic came from behind to beat Deiters 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 at No. 2. That put all the focus on Marroquin once more, and this time he would give the hosts something to cheer about. Marroquin won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5 to clinch the match and send Marian to the semfinals.

The Knights will meet either Huntington or Taylor at the Marian Tennis Courts Thursday.
