INDIANAPOLIS - Wednesday night the Marian volleyball team gave the packed PE Center the full price of admission, as the Coach Ashlee Pritchard's team swept Taylor University 3-0. Tonight's win was huge for the No. 25 Knights, as they were able to complete the season sweep of the Trojans, something that hasn't been done since both schools began playing twice a season back in 2010. Marian now boasts an overall record of 19-3 this season, while holding steady at the top of the Crossroads League with a record of 10-1.

In all three sets of Wednesday's battle, Taylor took the first point, but that didn't seem to rattle Marian. The first set belonged to Marian after the first two points were played, as the home team showed their muscle. Forcing an early Taylor timeout with score at 9-4 in favor of the home team, Marian continued a full-throttle attack. Growing their lead to as many as 12, the Knights dominated the set 25-17 on the scoreboard, and 13-7 in kills.

The second set churned out 22 total points before Marian was able to claim a permanent lead. After a Frannie Stephenson kill tied the set at 11, Marian went on a 3-0 run to grow their lead and force a Taylor timeout. Marian continued to be the better team as the set went on, increasing their lead to eight points. Marian and Taylor went back and forth with serving possesion over the final points, but the deficit was too much for the visitors to overcome, as Marian won the set 25-17.

Things seemed bleak in the third set for the Knights with Taylor leading most of the way, as they showed determination to not be swept. The Trojans led late 17-12, forcing coach Pritchard to burn her first timeout of the evening. Marian rallied back into the match, trimming Taylor's lead to one when the Trojans called timeout at 22-21. Despite trailing at set point 24-22, the Knights stayed calm under pressure, ending the match with four straight points to pull out the come-from-behind win 26-24.

Marian led in all major statistical categories, leading the match with 45 total kills, 44 assists, seven service aces, 76 digs, and three solo blocks.

Leading the offensive charge was Stephenson, who had a match high 12 kills. Also making the presence felt in the box score was Kacee Salyers, Hannah Trout, and Anne Strevels. Salyers had nine kills while serving up three aces in the match. Trout had eight kills and Strevels recorded six, with both Trout and Strevels being credited with one solo block. Strevels also led the team in block assists with three.

Julie Hoying and Madi Heffron continued to show off their impressive passing skills, as Hoying led the match with 22 assists while Heffron added 15. Vanessa Lay was in charge of the back row tonight, as she recorded 25 digs. Olivia Gillum also reached double-digit digs, posting a season high for three-match play with 12 digs. Hoying had the lone double-double of the evening as she added 10 digs to her season totals.

Marian will play again this Saturday, as Lourdes University comes to Indy for a 5:30 p.m. start time. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
