INDIANAPOLIS - It took almost 109 minutes to find a winner Wednesday night as the Marian men's soccer team fell to Grace 2-1 in double overtime at St. Vincent Field. Marian is 3-6 with the loss.

Marian's offense was in tune from the get-go as the Knights pinged the ball around the park with crisp passes and threatening overlap runs from the outside defenders. Early in the match, Marian put together a nice sequence as Nicolas Barrera flicked a heel pass to Alex Webb coming up the left side of the 18-yard box. However, despite the fact that Webb received the ball in stride with space in front of him, the whistle blew as Barrera was tackled. A card was given to Grace and the Knights had to settle for a free kick, which ultimately sailed wide.

Barrera had another prime opportunity later in the half as the Marian forward went up for a bicycle kick about 12 yards out. The kick looked destined for the back of the net, but struck the crossbar and kept the hosts off the board.

The teams were scoreless through the first half and Grace picked it up offensively in the second. After not taking a shot the entire first 45 minutes, the Lancers put together a few opportunities in the box in the second half. Sidney Miranda answered the call each time and kept his clean sheet through regulation.

The first overtime period came and went without a goal and late in the second overtime Grace found the game-winner. After a foul was called on Marian roughly 25 yards out, Grace's Breno Oliveira buried the free kick to give the Lancers the win.

A physical game throughout saw nine bookings and 27 fouls. Marian outshot Grace 18-9 and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Barrera led Marian with five shots, while Miranda made two saves in the net.

The Knights will back in action Saturday at Bethel at 5 p.m.
