JOLIET, Ill. -- The Marian College baseball team traveled to Joliet, Ill., on Sunday to take on the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis, but were unable to muster much offense falling in game one, 4-1, and just falling short in game two, 8-7.

Game one saw the Knights take an early lead in the top of the second inning when senior Cody Andrew (Hanover, Ind./Southeastern) singled home freshman Mike Keltz (Avon, Ind./Avon) to stake junior Steve Swain (Danville, Ind./Indiana Tech) a 1-0 lead. Swain surrendered no hits and three walks over the first four innings.

However, the fourth inning saw the Saints put three on the board in the fifth and one more in the sixth to seal the 4-1 win. Swain gave up just two hits over his five innings of work.

Game two was more of an offensive game as Marian jumped out in front in the top of the first, 2-0. Senior Bryston Bangel (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) led off the game with a single and senior Derek Malikian (Charlottesville, Va./New River CC)Joel Strode (Canton, Ill./Canton) sacrificed the two into scoring position and Bangel ultimately scored on a passed ball. After a walk to senior Jason Moon (Anderson, Ind./Anderson), Keltz stepped to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to score Malikian. The Knights scored a pair to take a quick 2-0 lead.

The Saints got the lead back, 7-6, with one in the bottom half, but the Knights would not go away. An RBI-double by Moon scored Strode knotted the ballgame one more time, 7-7, in the top of the fifth..

But, once again, St. Francis answered with a run, the ultimate game-winner,  in the bottom of the fifth. The Knights threatened but stranded a pair in the sixth and one more in the seventh as they fell to 9-20-1 overall.

Terrell finished the day 2-for-5 while Keltz had two RBI. Moon, Pickett and Gerald each had an RBI for the Knights.
