INDIANAPOLIS - After losing their first set at home this season, Marian volleyball rattled off three straight set victories to pick up their 21st win of the season against St. Francis on Wednesday. Marian played their first four set match at home this season, as proving to still be equally as tough to beat no matter the adversity thrown their way. The match also saw one Knight senior reach a career milestone, as Julie Hoying surpassed to 2,500 assist mark for her career in the win. Marian now has an overall record of 21-3 this season while improving their first place Crossroads League record to 11-1.

Marian jumped out to an early lead in the first set at 9-2, putting their foot on the gas from the word go. The needle in the tank quickly went to empty, as the lead didn't last long with the Cougars ralling back to even the score at 13-13. Neither team was able to gain momentum in the match until St. Francis finally took control, scoring the final five points to win the set 25-20.

The Knights didn't keep their heads down after dropping their first set at home this season, as the home team flipped the switch in the second set. The entire set was a back-and-forth battle, as neither team took a lead larger than three points until Marian pulled away at the 18-16 mark. Marian went on to score five straight points before ultimately winning the set 25-18 on a Kacee Salyers kill.

Things looked uneasy as St. Francis took the early 7-2 lead in the third set. Marian clawed their way back to even the score at 10, and never looked back from that moment. The Knights went on two long runs of five and six points to close it out, winning 25-14.

Looking to end the match in four sets for the first time in since the end of September, the Knights saw an early lead slip away to the Cougars in the fourth. Once again Marian put on their rally caps, coming back to end the match on a Salyers spike at 25-20.

Leading Marian in kills tonight was Hannah Trout, as the sophomore put up a season high 13 kills in the win. Trout also posted a .294 hitting percentage on her 34 attacks. Salyers had a double-double, as the senior put up 11 kills and 10 digs. Salyers also had five service aces. Anne Strevels had eight kills for the Knights.

Julie Hoying had 24 assists, leading the Knights passing efforts en route to eclipsing the 2,500 assist landmark. Madi Heffron had 11 assists, and Vanessa Lay had five. Lay was the back-row leader yet again, as the senior had 22 digs. Olivia Gillum had 12 digs for the home team and Megan Hawley had 10 digs.

Marian travels for both of their matches this weekend, starting with a trip to Goshen College Friday night. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
