BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The Marian football team posted its second-straight shutout and won 63-0 over Lindenwood-Belleville Saturday in Belleville, Illinois, to close the regular season. Marian finishes the year 7-3 and 4-2 in the MSFA.

The record books were rewritten early as Luke Johnston broke the all-time Marian passing touchdowns mark with his 54th all-time in the first quarter. He hit Mykelti Armstrong for a five yard TD less than five minutes into the game. The scoring picked back up in the second quarter on a 52 yard scamper from Charles Salary and Johnston found Brandon Dillon from 30 yards out for another score a few minutes later.

The Knights weren't quite done as Johnston and Johnny William connected for a 23 yard touchdown pass near the end of the second quarter. Marian carried the 28-0 lead to the half.

In the second half, the defense put points on the board less than a minute into the third as JaRon Clark recorded a pick six. Salary then ripped off a 46 yard rushing touchdown and Maurice Woodard followed with a 27 yard rush. Johnston closed the big quarter with a 53 yard pass to Dillon that capped a one play drive for six points. In the fourth, Tristen Tonte scored on a seven yard rush to close the scoring.

Marian had 503 total yards of offense with 318 coming on the ground. Johnston finished 10-for-19 for 176 yards and four touchdowns, while Salary led the ground attack with 130 yards and two touchdowns. Dillon caught two passes for 83 yards and two scores, while Armstrong led the receiving corps with five catches.

The Marian defense was a nightmare for the Lynx, recording 11 tackles for loss. Clark and Nick Maines each had interceptions and Chad Scaggs led Marian with seven tackles. Three of his tackles dropped Belleville for a loss and he also forced a fumble, which Tristan McClone recovered. Marian held Belleville to 99 rushing yards and just 83 passing yards.

The Knights now shift their attention to the NAIA National Championship Selection Show, which will air at 5 p.m. ET on the NAIA's Facebook page. Your online source for Marian Athletics, tickets, multimedia, Knight merchandise, photos and more.
