INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Marian College baseball team had a pair of seniors honored for their stellar play throughout the 2007 campaign.

Senior Bryston Bangel (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) was named to the All-Mid-Central College Conference team and to the All-Conference Gold Glove team while classmate Joel Strode (Canton, Ill./Canton) was also named to the All-Conference Gold Glove team.

Bangel, a senior center fielder and leadoff hitter and notorious slow-starter, opened the 2007 season very slowly. After the Knights came home from Florida, Bangel was hitting a lowly .200 for the season and his season reached an all-time low point when on March 24 he was hitting just .169. After an 0-for-3 day at the plate against Indiana Tech on March 29, something just clicked.

From April 9 until April 19 (13 games), Bangel went on a 13-game hitting streak where he batted .479 (23-for-48) raising his average from .219 to .322. In conference games only, Bangel went 32-for-70 (.457) and at one point was hitting .538. Although his streak was snapped at 13, he had 14 multi-hit games including two 4-for-5 efforts.

He was also named to the All-Conference Gold Glove team. Bangel was perfect through his first 74 chances, but made his only error of the season in a non-conference nine-inning game against Anderson. He closed the regular season with a .990 fielding percentage.

Strode also picked up All-Conference Gold Glove team honors. The senior first baseman committed just one error on the season in 239 chances (.996) at first base. While he earned the honor as a first baseman, Strode also started 10 games at second base and had just one error in 48 chances.

The No. 4-seeded Knights hook up with the No. 3-seeded Bethel College Pilots on Wednesday at the 2007 MCC Tournament. The games will be played on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. The Knights take on Bethel at 1 p.m.
