INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- After being selected to the 2007 All-Conference Gold Glove team, seniors
Joel Strode (Canton, Ill./Canton) and
Bryston Bangel (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) were each honored as NAIA All-Region VIII Gold Glove team selections.
Strode, a first baseman, was honored for his outstanding play
throughout the 2007 campaign. The Canton, Ill., native finished the
season with a .985 fielding percentage with 31 games at first base
(.996) and 14 games at second base (.940). Strode also finished the
season with a team-leading .350 average, a team-high 56 hits, and 20
RBI. He also stole 11 bases in 13 attempts.
Bangel, a center fielder, was honored for his stellar play patrolling
the outfield. The Indianapolis, Ind., native started 46 of 47 games in
center and had a .991 fielding percentage. Bangel was second on the
team with a .314 average including 54 hits and 20 stolen bases in 22
attempts. His season was highlighted by a 13-game hitting streak that
saw his average climb from .196 to .322 in just over two weeks.
The Knights finished fifth in the Mid-Central College Conference with a
19-27-1 overall mark and an 11-10 mark in MCC play. The season was
highlighted by the Knights' remarkable run to the MCC Tournament title
game where they fell to Bethel College.
