INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's track and field team opened the 2017-18 indoor season Friday at the University of Indianapolis at the UIndy Winter Break Meet. Several men competed and the Knights brought home multiple first place finishes.

Marian placed two runners in the top six of the 400 meters. Aaron Murray finished third in 51.34 seconds, while James Bryant crossed the line sixth in 52.42 seconds. Marian picked up another third place finish in the 600 meters with Nathan Blyly finishing in 1:26.56. Marcus Griffin and Mychal Vinson were just outside the top 10 in 11th and 13th, respectively. 

Coming off a national title last season, Presley Martin picked up where he left off, finishing first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.89. His time hit the NAIA "B" Standard. Bryson Tretter finished fifth in 2:05.96. Marcus Fierek finished third in the mile in 4:41.16, while Eli Fischer took eighth. In the 3,000 meters, Conor Smith finished third in 8:50.66 and Aaron Kazmierski finished 10th.

Griffin earned himself a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 and the 4x400 meter relay team narrowly missed out on a first place finish, losing to Lindsey Wilson by 0.11 seconds. The team of Moussa Conde, Martin, Bryant and Vinson crossed the line in 3:28.72.

In field events, Emil Belmontes and Jon Greene placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters. Garrett Johnson won the pole vault by clearing 4.42 meters and Clayton Wilson took fourth by clearing 4.27 meters. In the long jump, Drezden Johnson's mark of 6.48 meters earned him a fifth place finish. Belmontes also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.07 meters. In the shot put, Jonah Mikel placed 10th with a mark of 11.74 meters.
