INDIANAPOLIS - Seven Marian College track and field athletes were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday.

Four seniors and three juniors earned the NAIA's highest academic honors with four coming in women's track and field and three in men's track and field. The honor is awarded for both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Seniors Kyle Hinkle (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Matt Cummins (Avon, Ind./Avon) were both honored for the second straight season and it is the fourth time the duo has been honored. Both earned the honor for cross country in each of the last two fall seasons.

Junior Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) was the lone junior on the men's team and he did excelled in the classroom and on the track. He set the school-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished ninth at the NAIA National Outdoor Championships.

Seniors Monique Ware (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and Amanda Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) were both honored as Scholar-Athletes after solid campaigns on the track and in the classroom.

Juniors Lyndy Errett (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and Jill Kuntz (Batesville, Ind./Oldenburg Academy) were both also honored for their academic achievement for the first time in the track and field season.

The honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who have achieved junior standing and have maintained a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
