Dean Peterson - Head Coach - 4th Season

Dean Peterson is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Marian University cycling program. Peterson also serves as an instructor within the School of Education at Marian University.

Peterson brings 27 years of bicycle racing experience and 21 years of teaching experience to Marian University. He has coached, trained, or raced in Europe, Africa, and Cuba. He is a USA Cycling Level 3 coach and is a USA Cycling Category 1 cyclist.

In his three seasons at the helm of the 11-time national champions, Peterson has guided the Knights to three straight USA Cycling collegiate track cycling national championships and has overseen the birth of an all-around cycling program. The Knights have become contenders in the race for a road national championship every spring, and Peterson has led the Knights into the relatively new categories of mountain biking and cyclo-cross.

Coach Peterson also oversaw the development of the Marian University Cycling Center in 2007. He is known in cycling circles in Indianapolis and has cultivated sponsor relationships that culminated in the development of the center.

Peterson earned his bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in 1988 and his master of science degree from Butler University in 1997.

He resides in Indianapolis with his wife and their two children.

Jeff Hopkins Image
Jeff Hopkins - Assistant Coach - 2nd Season
Coach Hopkins enters his second year as assistant head coach for the Marian University cycling program.
 
Hopkins, a native of Sydney, Australia, was the 1997 junior world champion and brings his extensive cycling background to Marian University.
 
Jeff is the son of Kerry and Rosemary and has one brother named Shaun.
 
He currently resides in Indianapolis.  
 

Brett Stewart Image
Brett Stewart - Assistant Coach - 2nd Season

Brett Stewart is in his second year as assistant coach with the Marian University cycling program. Stewart is a USCF category 1 cyclist who was a member of the United States National Team in 2006 and a member of the Cycling Center in Belgium.

Stewart earned a bachelor of science degree from Indiana University where he was a cyclist from 2004-08. He was also a member of the "Cutters" team during Little 500 in 2003-04 and was a member of the Athletes By Design Elite cycling team from 2005-08.

During his IU career, Stewart was involved in student government as a student body executive candidate and Supreme Court candidate in 2006. He was also director of legislative relations for the IU Student Association in 2005.

He currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
