In his eighth year at Marian University, Scott Fleming serves as softball head coach, an assistant coach for men's basketball, and intramural director for the Department of Athletics.
 
During his tenure with Marian University, Fleming also spent seven years as an admission counselor and as an assistant director of admission. He also served as a volunteer coach for men's basketball for six years and for women's basketball for one year.
 
Scott has served as the head coach of softball for the past eight seasons and has compiled an impressive 242-109 overall record including an 93-33 record in Mid-Central College Conference play. He has coached 21 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the 2004 and 2011 MCC Players of the year, the 2009 and 2010 MCC Newcomers of the Year, the 2010 MCC Pitcher of the Year, two All-Region selections, and 30 All-Conference selections in his seven seasons at the helm. The team also earned trips to the NAIA Regional Tournament in three of his seven seasons.
 
Fleming has been named the MCC Coach of the Year twice, most recently in 2010.
 
Fleming is a 1989 graduate of Marian University and is married to Gina, who is a 1993 graduate of Marian University. The couple has two sons and resides in Indianapolis.



 
Mike Henderson
Assistant Coach - 8th Season

Mike Henderson serves as the volunteer assistant coach and is a 2007 Marian University M-Club Wall of Fame inductee.

Mike founded the softball program and guided it to success as a young varsity program. Mike was also an assistant coach for men's basketball and retired from active coaching in 1999.

Mike resides in Brownsburg, Indiana.
 
Melissa Coutz
Assistant Coach - 1st Season
 
In her first year at Marian University, Melissa Coutz serves as the assistant coach for the softball team.
 
As a third basemen for the Marian University softball team from 2006-10, Coutz helped lead the team to a Mid-Central College Conference tournament championship in 2009 and an MCC regular season championship in 2010. As a freshman, Coutz earned All-Region honors, started 32 of 36 games and finished with a batting average of .276. She posted 24 hits including four doubles, three triples, and a team-high four homeruns. During her sophomore season, she started 43 games for the Knights and had a batting average of .313. Coutz also drove in 20 runs for MU and had a slugging percentage of .529. In 2009 Coutz and the Knights earned the MCC tournament title. She played in 45 games and had 38 hits and 23 RBI. She also hit three homeruns and was named to the All-Tournament team. In her final season with the Knights, Coutz started all 48 games for the Knights at third and helped lead them to a perfect 16-0 record in MCC play. She was third on the team with a .384 batting average and third in homeruns with six. Coutz was also second on the team in both RBI (46) and slugging percentage (.601). She earned All-MCC honors, was a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, and was named MCC Academic All-Conference. She was also awarded the Cooling Service and Elemendorf scholarships, served as the Student Athletic Advisory Board representative for softball, and was a member of Marian University's Business Creation and Development Consulting Group during her time at Marian.
 
Coutz also served as the marketing intern for Westminster Village North Retirement Community and Fastenal in Indianapolis. She was also the finance intern for RiverWood Financial Group.
 
Coutz will graduate from Marian University in the spring of 2011 with a bachelor of science in Marketing, Accounting, and Finance. She currently resides in Indianapolis, Ind.
