Marian University M-Club Wall of Fame
Nominating Policies and Procedures
Marian College Graduates
Eligible individuals include the many student-athletes distinguishing themselves during the years that Marian University was known and operated as Marian College. All references to Marian University are meant to be inclusive as to all individuals, events, and occurrences relating to the years of school operation while the institution was known as Marian College.
The Wall of Fame
A citation reciting the achievements of the inductee and representing the basis for the selection will be presented to the inductee, or a family representative, at the induction ceremony. A current photo of the honoree will be displayed on the Wall of Fame for one year following induction. The individual's name will also be affixed to the permanent Wall of Fame display located in the Physical Education Center. In addition, the basis for the nomination and induction, as stated in this citation, will also be displayed on the Wall of Fame web site.
Governing Body
The Governing Body of the Athletics Wall of Fame concerning all projects, programs, and initiatives of the organization, shall be under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the M-Club Board chairperson, and the Development Officer for athletics.
Criteria for Nomination
Athletes
- The nominee must be a graduate of Marian University.
- The nominee must have made exceptional athletic contributions and brought significant honor and prestige to Marian University while demonstrating good moral character and good citizenship during both undergraduate and post-graduate years.
- The nominee must have graduated at least five (5) years prior to the date of nomination.
- Extraordinary professional achievement, as well as community and church-related service and leadership following graduation, are also factors to be considered in the selection process.
- Athletic teams may be honored by nomination and induction as long as the five (5) year post-graduation requirement is satisfied, and the other criteria noted are also considered. However, no team worthy of induction will be denied due to the failure of a team member to have graduated from Marian University.
- Alumni athletes serving on the Selection Committee are not eligible for nomination.
Coaches and Administrators
- Nomination eligibility begins only upon the expiration of five (5) years following completion of tenure as a Coach or Administrator at Marian University. A waiver because of extenuating circumstances may be granted at the discretion of the Selection Committee.
- The nominee must have made exceptional contributions to the prestige and honor of Marian University by excelling as a leader of highly-competitive teams; by demonstrating clear concern for the welfare of individual student-athletes; and by having demonstrated good citizenship while exhibiting the core Franciscan values.
- Other extraordinary professional achievement as well as community and church-related service and leadership are also factors for consideration.
- No Coach or Administrator who is a member of the Selection Committee is eligible for nomination.
Meritorious Award Category
- Purpose, Eligibility, and Criteria
- This award confers recognition upon individuals who have given extraordinary service and support to the intercollegiate athletic program at Marian University over an extended period of time. Their service and support have brought prestige and honor to the institution. Any faculty member, graduate, or friend of Marian University is eligible for the award. The recipients of this award will have demonstrated good citizenship while exhibiting the core Franciscan values. Nomination and selection of the Meritorious Award recipients will follow the same nomination criteria outlined above. No member of the Selection Committee is eligible to be nominated.
Nominating Procedure
Nominations for the Wall of Fame can be made during any school year from the date of September 1 until June 30. Requests for nominations will be made by the Selection Committee in the Winter and Spring issues of the
Marian University Magazine. The
Marian University Magazine notice will include a statement as to the time for submitting nominations, as well as, general directions for making and submitting nominations. Nominations can be made online at the athletics web site by clicking the Wall of Fame link. A nomination may be made by any person.
All nominations
MUST use the nomination form given on the athletics web site and include supporting data evidencing the nominee's achievements. The nomination must be received in the Office of the Director of Athletics by June 30. Nominations will not be publicly disclosed.

Selection Committee
The Committee will be comprised of the following individuals:
Permanent Members
- The Director of Athletics
- The Development Officer for athletics
- The M-Club Board of Directors chairperson
- The Director of Alumni Affairs
Rotating Members
- Two members of the Wall of Fame
- One non-coaching faculty/staff representative
The rotating members will be selected by the Director of Athletics and will serve two-year terms. If rotating candidates for the committee are unavailable for appointment, then the Director of Athletics is authorized to appoint members as deemed appropriate.
Upon receipt of written nominations, the Selection Committee will convene in August and evaluate the qualifications of those nominated. The Committee will also carefully research the nominee's athletic achievements. As was noted above, the Selection Committee will weigh all of the criteria individually and collectively, and may grant special recognition to any item where it deems circumstances warrant.
To be selected for induction, the nominee must receive the affirmative vote of a majority of the Selection Committee. The Committee will make its selections for induction by August 30. The new inductees will be notified approximately two months prior to the date of the induction ceremony.
These Marian University M-Club Athletics Wall of Fame Policies and Procedures were adopted by unanimous vote of the M-Club Board of Directors on January 31, 2009. They carry an effective date of July 1, 2009, which is the date that the name of Marian College is legally and formally changed to Marian University.
