INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University head cycling coach Dean Peterson is proud to announce the first commitments for the 2010-11 season.

Elizabeth Engwis, who will graduate from Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wis., signed with the 12-time collegiate national track cycling champions on Friday afternoon in the Marian University Cycling Center.

"We are excited to have Beth competing at Marian University," said Peterson. "She is a strong rider who we expect to do good things within our program."

Engwis was the victor at the 2009 Food, Folks, and Spokes criterium in Kenosha, Wis., and earned a third-place finish at the Downer's Grove criterium in Downer's Grove, Ill., in 2009. She was also the winner at the Evanston criterium in Evanston, Ill., and earned a sixth-place finish at the 2007 junior track cycling national championships.

She will graduate with an honors diploma, was a member of the band where she played the clarinet, and competed in tennis at No. 2 singles during her career.

Engwis is one of the first two commitments for next season as Coach Peterson and the Knights continue to expand the Knights' success into the other three cycling disciplines.
